Lindy Hop and TRPV1!

Updated: Jul 6, 2018

For the third iteration of our distinguished speaker series, we invited the esteemed Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology Rachelle Gaudet, who gave a talk entitled “Structural Biology of the Senses.” She described proteins as nanomachines, following the sentiment of “Form ever follows function” (Louis Sullivan).

Gaudet took us on a trip through x-ray crystallography and presented us with two case studies on the senses of hearing and touch. Gaudet concluded her talk with a video of a Lindy Hop dance routine analogous to the TRPV1, the transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 related to pain perception.

Watch her combine dance and bio in a fun video here.

We also had pizza and ice cream afterwards courtesy of our PA's!
